Yesterday was Good Friday. Tomorrow is Easter Sunday. But what about today?
Today represents the only day in human history when all hope seemed lost. The only day when it truly seemed that evil and death had won.  Jesus had died on the cross, and was buried in the grave. Even his closest followers lost faith-Jesus was a fraud, or at the very least, crazy. He definitely wasn’t who he said he was, because if he was the Son of God, there’s no way he would have died. But he did die. And he was buried. And in that tomb, he lay. Jesus. Gone. Dead. The worst possible nightmare-realized.
You’ve been there before too, right? Feeling completely and utterly hopeless? Like that thing that happened-that diagnosis, that loss, that divorce, that mistake-would never stop hurting? Never stop dominating your thoughts? Never stop defining you?
You’re here. On Saturday. Feeling what this day represents. Hell on earth. No victory. All defeat. What’s done is done-but you’re not sure you can live with what’s been done. I’ve been there too. We all have.
And yet, right there, in the midst of it all, there is hope. Why? Because after Saturday comes Sunday. See, we know the story-Jesus doesn’t stay in that tomb. You’ll hear more about that tomorrow. Just know this-as bad as your Saturday may be, God’s working, just like he was working on that Saturday in between the Cross and the Tomb. So hold on. Don’t let go. God can do something great in the midst of your tragedy. He’s done it before, and he’ll do it again.
Because as bad as Saturday can be, it’s not the end.
It’s only the beginning.
