READ: Proverbs 8
“The Lord possessed me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of old.” (Proverbs 8:22)
Much of Proverbs 8 reiterates what Solomon has said in the first seven Proverbs we have looked at. That wisdom calls out to us to take hold of it, that the fear of the Lord is where wisdom starts, that there is much to gain be seeking and living in wisdom.
So I’ll make this quick tonight: I find it really cool that Proverbs 8 talks about God creating wisdom. This passage tells us that wisdom is ancient. That it’s been around since the beginning of time. That God shaped it into being in the same way (and at the same time) as He shaped the world into being. Wisdom is as old as the oldest parts of our universe (or, if Solomon is speaking literally, it’s actually older.)
So what does this mean for us? Here’s what I take away: We were created to be wise. God would not have created wisdom so long ago if we were not meant to have it. Therefore…pursuing wisdom naturally forms us into who we were designed to be in the first place.
Want to press more deeply into your true self? Want to keep discovering who you were created to be? Seek wisdom. God created it to help His children live lives that glorify Him.
