READ: Proverbs 10

“Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.” (Proverbs 10:9)

Probably the thing that I desire most personally is consistently. I want to be consistent. In how I lead, in my habits and disciplines (which is a STRUGGLE), in how I interact with people, in life. Inconsistency frustrates me to no end.

And inconsistency becomes more than a frustration and something that can lead to ruin when we are inconsistent in the ways that we conduct ourselves. When our actions are inconsistent with our words, or when our private lives are inconsistent with our public persona, we are lacking integrity. And integrity is everything. I’ve heard before that who you really are is the person you are when no one is watching you. I agree with that. And it’s a sobering thought.

The moments in my life that I am most ashamed of, by far, are the times in which I have not lived up to the values I profess to have. When what I’ve said I believed or wanted wasn’t what I did. When I’ve claimed that I cared about people, and instead hurt them.

So here’s the million dollar question: are you walking in integrity? And, a step further-if the answer to that is no, will you confess to someone you trust that you’re not? Because we only can walk secure when are private and public are consistent with one another. When we lack integrity, Solomon gives us a promise: we will eventually be found out.

Don’t walk around hoping that no one finds out about your secret sin and inconsistencies. Admit them. And then, through that accountability-trust God to help you grow to walk in integrity. Let your private life be consistent with your public persona.

Because we really are the people we are when no one is watching.

One of my favorite verses in Proverbs chapter 10 is “People who accept correction are on the pathway to life, but those who ignore it will lead others astray (v17 nlt ).” To walk in integrity we must walk humbly and listen to GOD’s correction. To ignore His correction is foolish. To listen and follow His correction is Wisdom.
