READ: Proverbs 19
“Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.” (Proverbs 19: 11)
I don’t really have a devotional thought today. I actually have a question. A question that I think could free you from the pain of your past. A question that could make your relationships better. A question that could help you live a life more closely aligned with Jesus. So here it is:
What is something that you can forgive someone for, that you should forgive someone for?
I get it. Forgiveness is hard, especially for those of us who hold grudges so easily. I know there are some of you who have been hurt in ways that are unimaginable to me, and that the last thing you want to hear is that you should forgive. Which is why I’m not asking you to think about the worst thing anyone’s ever done to you, and then go and forgive them for it. Maybe you’re not ready for that.
But what you can be ready for is an answer to the question I asked. What is something that you can forgive someone for, that you should forgive someone for? Proverbs 19 says that it is to our glory when we overlook (or forgive) an offense. So what’s an offense done to you that you can leave behind? As I said…I think it would set you free.
