READ: Proverbs 30

“Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.” (Proverbs 30:5)

Who do you know that you can describe with the statement Agur (this Proverb isn’t written by Solomon) describes God with in this verse? Every word of God proves true. You can test everything God has ever said, in the entire history of the world, and there would be no lies found. No half-truths. No unfulfilled promises. I’ve known a lot of amazing people, people I trust with my life, and yet, I don’t know anyone I can say that about. It’s a standard that is impossible for us to live up to as humans. We’ve all lied, or not told the whole truth. We’ve all failed to follow through on what we said we would do. But God hasn’t. It has been proved that all he’s ever said is true.

Which is why it is so imperative that we follow through on the rest of verse 5. Because this is true, God is a shield. Because everything about him is true, he is capable of protecting us. He is worth taking refuge in.

We take refuge in a lot of things-we place our faith in all kinds of people, ideas, and objects. And then we’re shocked when we get hurt, when we’re not protected, when the walls we’ve built don’t hold up. We shouldn’t be-we’re trying to take refuge in what is inconsistent. Ultimately, that’s what we are, in and of ourselves-inconsistent. We don’t always do the right things, say the right words, make the right decisions, or have the right attitudes.

But God does. He’s perfectly consistent. You never have to wonder how he’s going to respond, or how his feelings are going to work out. He is the same, all the time. He doesn’t change. Isn’t that refreshing, to know you can reside in a God who is consistent? In the midst of an ever-changing world, full of inconsistent people, and as you deal with your inconsistent self-doesn’t it bring you relief to take refuge in a King who is still and constant?

You can’t be protected from chaos by chaos. You need a shield that rises above the chaos-God is that shield. Take refuge in Him.

Amen! GOD truly is our shield! Only in Him can we take refuge. ❤️✝️❤️ Ephesians 6:10-18 describes the armor of God and all that it is.
Each day we should put on the belt of truth.
Each day we should put on our shoes that are fitted with the readiness that comes from the Gospel of peace; the readiness that will enable us to walk to others and share the Good News, the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His promise of His gift of Salvation.
Each day we should put on our helmet of Salvation filling our mind, soul and spirit with strength and peace.
Each day we should put on the breastplate of righteousness knowing that Jesus Christ paid the price for our sin, washed it away and clothed us in His righteousness.
Each day we should carry the shield of faith that extinguishes all the fiery darts of the evil one. Faith is the foundation of our relationship with our Heavenly Father and He is our protection from the evil one, Satan.
Each day we should carry the sword of the Spirit which is the Holy Word of GOD. Through GOD’s Word, His Holy Spirit will speak to us, teach us and guide us.
